Drug Nexium Information – Nexium and Dosage

How to take Nexium

Nexium is available in a sustained-release capsule and should be swallowed whole. Do not chew or crush this medication before swallowing.

Oral Nexium and dosage (capsules):

For treatment of stomach conditions causing to much acid and/or inflamed esophagus:
• Nexium is generally taken orally and is usually taken once per day for 4 to 8 weeks.
• The treatment may continue for up to 6 months even after conditions have improved.

For treatment of ulcers:
• One Nexium capsule is usually taken with an antibiotic once per day for 10 days.

Note: Nexium should be taken orally at least one hour before a meal. If you are taking Nexium for stomach acid or esophagus problems and your conditions do not improve within 4 to 8 weeks or get worse, you should contact your physician. If your symptoms continue or get worse you should call your doctor. In addition, if you are taking Nexium to treat an ulcer and the symptoms do not improve or get worse within 10 days you should contact your physician. The number of capsules prescribed per-day depends on the strength of the prescription drug. In addition, the amount of capsules taken, the time between doses, and the duration the drug is taken is dependant on the medical problem related to the prescription and the discretion of the physician prescribing the drug. Always follow the directions given to you by your physician!

Missed Nexium dose

If you have missed a Nexium dose you should take it as soon as you remember. If you remember close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Never double dose!

Nexium overdose

Seek medical attention immediately!

In the event of a Nexium overdose get medical attention immediately. If the victim has collapsed and/or has stopped breathing, you should call your local emergency services (dial 911).
