Prescription Drug Safety and Quality
No matter which option you choose, your prescriptions are filled by a
licensed pharmacy operated in strict accordance with industry standards and in full compliance with the requirements of regulatory authorities.
This is a safe way to purchase prescription drugs that are manufactured to the same high standards that apply in the United States.
In fact, many Canadian drugs, along with many of the drugs sold by our partnered international pharmacies, are manufactured in the same plants
that manufacture the drugs sold in the U.S. By clicking on the "Safety and Quality" link above, you can read the May 2003
Congressional Research Study that confirms that Canada's system for regulating prescription drugs is substantially equivalent to that of the United States. If you have any questions, you can speak to one of our licensed pharmacists.
Please write to your Congressman and let them know how you feel about the cost of Prescription Drugs in the US, and ask them to Support buying Prescription Drugs from Canada.
News and Current Developments
U.S. Halts Seizure of Prescription Drugs Coming From Canada
As a result of pressure from various members of Congress due to widespread complaints from U.S. citizens, many of them seniors, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency announced that effective October 9, 2006, it would no longer seize orders of prescription drug medications coming into the U.S. from Canada. (Note: This policy change applies only to Canada.)
Random seizures of medication orders by U.S. Customs have been
occurring for more then two years, but the number of seizures increased dramatically in November 2005 in advance of the debut of the Medicare Prescription Drug Program in January of 2006. In announcing the policy reversal, a U.S. Custom's spokeswoman declined to give a reason. However, there is a considerable speculation that it had to do, at least in part, with the November 2006 mid-term congressional elections.
Canadian Meds USA customers have the option of requesting a full credit or having their order re-shipped at no cost if a seizure occurs.
Capitol Hill Watch: Momentum Builds in Congress for Legislation to Allow Purchase of Prescrption Drugs from Other Countries
In September 2006, the U.S. Senate approved an amendment to the fiscal 2007 Homeland Security appropriations bill that allows U.S. residents to personally transport a 90-day supply of medication across the border with Canada. This is a small, but significant, step in the direction of the broader legislation designed to permit the safe importation of prescription drugs from other specifically designated countries such as Canada
and the UK, along with other countries belonging to the EU (European Union), ect. One such bi-partisan bill that is currently pending in the U.S. Congress is S. 334 sponsored by Senators Byron Dorgan (D - N.D.) and Olympia Snowe (R - Maine) along with 22 cosponsors.
AARP Reaffirms Endorsement of Legislation to Legalize Importation of Prescription Drugs
In July 2004, the head of AARP, William D. Novelli, announced that AARP was officially endorsing a bi-partisan bill in the U.S. Congress sponsored by Senators Byron Dorgan (D - N.D.) and Olympia Snowe (R - Maine), and 22 cosponsors, that would legalize the safe importation of prescription drugs, beginning with Canada. In making this announcement, Mr. Novelli stated: "It is no longer a question of whether we should allow the importation of drugs from abroad. It's already happening....We need to legalize this and, above all, make sure that a system is in place to guarantee safety."
In a September 19, 2006 Press Release, AARP Senior Amanging Director of Governmental Relation, David Sloane, re-stated AARP's position is support of this still pending legislation: "[In order] to make the importation of prescription drugs both safe and legal, AARP strongly supports [Senate bill] S. 334, a bill introduced by Senators Byron Dorgan and Olympia Snowe that would achieve that goal."
July 2004 AARP Survey Indicates that 79% of U.S. Senior Citizens Want Prescription Drug Importation To Be Legalized
The AARP poll was conducted between July 9 and July 12, 2004 and was based on a nationally representative sample of U.S. residents aged 50 and above.
